If you are an experienced cannabis user, you probably already know that the way you consume Marijuana can make a big difference when it comes to the impact you feel from it. Many people prefer to smoke cannabis, yet since the popularization of concentrates, new ways of using have been hyped. One of the ways of consuming cannabis besides smoking is by using edibles. But what are they? How are they different? What would be the right dosage and where to get them? We will answer all of your questions further in this post.

What Are Weed Edibles?

Weed edibles are food products that contain cannabis, as their name suggests. They come in many food forms such as candies, cooking oils, beverages, baked cookies or chocolates. As with every other concentrate, edibles contain one of the two main ingredients of cannabis – THC and CBD, both of which have many health benefits and unlike smoking, they are not at risk for the respiratory system.

For instance, edibles that contain only CBD are great to treat anxiety and chronic pain. While THC edibles can cause feelings of euphoria and relaxation.

The experience that edibles offer differs from when you consume cannabis in a different way. For instance, they need more time to kick in, but the effects can last longer and can feel more intense.

Common Forms and Dosage

Edibles come in many different forms, but these are the most common:

Baked

Baked edibles are most famous. You can find them in the form of brownies, biscuits, cookies and even waffles.

Candy

Candies and sweets such as gummies, lollipops, hard candy, marshmallows and even chewing gums are another interesting way that you can consume edibles.

Beverages

Edibles can be also found in the form of coffee, tea, soda, ice tea or energy drinks. But if you are in for a combination of alcohol and cannabis, you can also find them in shots, beer or wine.

When it comes to the dosage, it all depends on what you are consuming. For instance, one package of gummy contains 100mg of THC and only one gummy – 10mg. However, it is recommended not to exceed more than 20 to 30 mg per day, since using more than that will cause some negative effects, including dependency. You can always consult with Health Canada’s recommended dosing amounts if you are unsure.

Where Can You Get Edibles?

The most important thing you need to remember when using edibles, especially if it’s your first time is to use them safely. If your dosage is prescribed by a medical doctor, it is important to follow the usage recommendations. That way you can avoid the risk for potential negative effects that can be caused by overconsumption.

If you decide to purchase edibles for recreational use, make sure to buy only from a quality dispensary that can be trusted. This is important because they are required to test their products for safety in accredited laboratories in order to get approval for sale.

Edibles purchased from unregulated businesses can have risks. For instance, if edibles are not tested, they can be contaminated with bacteria, fungi, pesticides, mold or other things that can cause health risks.
